Kauai Romantic Vacation

Ideas, Tips, & Activities, Beaches, and Attractions for a romantic getaway or honeymoon

Kauai Romantic Getaway Vacation Kauai, otherwise known as the "Garden Isle", is visually stunning and very romantic. It is a perfect spot to plan a honeymoon or romantic getaway. Lush, warm, relaxing, inviting, and full of secluded spots to discover, Kauai is a perfect vacation getaway in the Hawaiian islands. You will soon find that Kauai is not as overrun with tourists as either Oahu or Maui, but there are still mulitple activities, romantic restaurants, and secluded beaches on the island.

Travel to Kauai

Kauai Vacation Rental The tropical paradise of Kauai basks amidst the sparkling blue waters of the Pacific Ocean, about 20 minutes by air from Honolulu. Formed some six million years ago, the island encompasses roughly 550 square miles and is the oldest and northernmost of the main Hawaiian Islands. To visit Kauai is to quickly lose yourself in the quiet majesty of the island's lush tropical setting and extraordinary natural heritage. Discover the legendary aloha spirit that abounds in this friendly garden island paradise. Remember, the west and the south parts of the island are the driest and sunniest. Kauai's busy season runs from late November to March, so look to book in the early Spring or Fall.

Lihue (LHI) is where Kauai's airport is located, and it is about a 30 - 50 minute drive to any of the hotels or resorts on the island. Hawaiian airlines that fly into Kauai are Aloha Airlines , Island Air, and Hawaiian Airlines. Hawaiian Airlines flies into Kauai only from Honolulu though. Flights between the islands are generally quite cheap, you can pick up tickets for around $50 - $75, and flights leave every hour of the day. Flying time from either Maui or Oahu averages out to around 30 minutes, and you will get a great view of the light blue ocean waters that surround the Hawaiian islands. If you are planning a trip from the United States, United and American Airlines fly direct to Kauai out of either Los Angeles or San Fransisco. Flight time is about 5.5 hours. Canadian flights to Lihue Airport depart from Vancouver via American Airlines.

Horseback Riding

Kauai Horseback Riding Of all the ways to explore Kauai, from horseback must be among the best. There are scenic trails that follow along the coast. Trips up Hanalei Valley, a place that hasn't changed much in the past one thousand years. Other trails take you to Haupu Valley, along the beach and past the coves of Mahaulepu Beach, or down into Waimea Canyon, known as the 'Grand Canyon of the Pacific.' Horseback riding stables are plentiful on Kauai

Coconut Coast - Esprit De Corps Riding Academy
East Side - Kahana II Trail Rides
North Shore - Silver Falls Ranch
South Shore - Brennecke’s Beach Center
West Side - Garden Island Ranch

Hanalei Bay

Kauai's Hanaeli Bay Lovely Hanalei Bay on Kauai’s North Shore may be the most beautiful beach setting in all of Hawaii. Hanalei is the largest bay on the island of Kauai and nearly a perfect semi-circle of white sand. Behind the beach is an utterly breathtaking backdrop of waterfalls and emerald mountain peaks wrapped in mist, soaring thousands of feet towards the heavens. The beach is two miles long, 125 feet wide, and bordered by the Hanalei River to the east and the Waipa River to the west. The ocean bottom slopes gently to overhead depths, and there are large coral reefs at both ends of the bay. Every ocean recreation activity you can imagine is available, from boating and windsurfing to kayaking up the placid Hanalei River. The bay is very popular with serious surfers. There is a public boat ramp and a 300-foot long pier used for fishing and swimming. The many “no dogs” and “no jumping off the pier” signs are blissfully ignored.

Hanea State Park

Kauai's Hanaeli Bay Haena sits on the northern coast of Kauai near Tunnels Beach and Wainiha Bay, a very interesting area located along the 38-mile stretch of Highway 56. Here you will find the trailhead for the only land route to the beautiful Na Pali Coast. Haena State Park is a great place for swimming in the summer time and surfing in the winter. Points of interest in the Haena area include the Waioli Mission House, Waioli Mission Hall, and the picturesque Waioli Huiia Church. There are five botanical gardens located near Haena, including the beautiful Limahula Garden. Overall, there is 17 acres of gardens and rain forest, and rare native plants.

Napali Coast

Kauai's Napali Coast The Na Pali Coast is a very special place. The pali, or cliffs, provide a rugged grandeur of deep, narrow valleys ending abruptly at the sea. Waterfalls and swift flowing streams continue to cut through these narrow valleys while the sea carves cliffs at their mouths. This is a gorgeous part of the Northern coastline of Kauai, and is a must-see for anyone visiting the island. It is accessible by foot by numerous hiking trails, and during the summer, enjoy boat tours, catamarans, kayaks and zodiac rafts that travel up and down the coastline. Plan your trip for the early morning, as the area is usually covered by cloud in the afternoon, and if you are lucky, you will view the early morning pods of dolphins that swim around the area.

Great Kauai Beaches

Poipu Beach is located near the southern-most tip of Kauai. The beaches in this area are favorites for snorkeling and scuba diving. You will find Brennecke's Beach Broiler across the street from Poipu Beach Park, stop in and enjoy a bite to eat or a drink. Lots of fun in the sun in Poipu!

Kalapaki Beach has gentle waters and white sand, which are ideal for sunning, swimming, and sailing. Kalapaki Beach also is the home of the Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club, and Kauai Lagoons. 40 acres of freshwater tropical lagoons that serve as a sanctuary for exotic wildlife are found here.

Pakalas Beach - Located by Waimea Canyon, Pakalas Beach is the perfect secluded beach to take a romantic walk or swim. Other than surfers in the water there is never anyone on it. Its beautiful as well, the Waimea river runs into the ocean near this beach and tons of driftwood wash up on Pakalas.
