Great Romantic Ideas For A Whistler Outdoor Vacation

Whistler Romantic Getaway

A great romantic getaway for couples is Whistler, a 2 hour drive north from the city of Vancouver. Whistler is one of the top ski destinations in the world, and the resort is world-class. The ski resort area is one of the largest ski destinations anywhere, and the outlining area offers many other activities to visitors, whether it is during the winter or summer months. If you have not considered Whistler as part of your Vancouver vacation or holiday, give it some serious consideration. There are very few places in the world that can offer a spectacular alpine wilderness so close to a major city and airport. Plus, with Whistler hosting the 2010 Olympic Games, hotel and tour operators are becoming very competitive and affordable with their pricing of accommodations and activities.

Our Whistler Vacation Rentals page gives full details and information that you will need to know to book the right place for your Whistler getaway. Whistler Mountain vacation rentals can be rented from either a resort rental company, or owner direct rentals right in Whistler. They're priced affordable, have more amenities than most hotel rooms, and offer greater flexibility and room for things like skis, snowboards, and camping equipment.

Travelling To Whistler

Your Whistler getaway will start at Vancouver International Airport - YVR, which is the closest gateway to the alpine ski resort. There are direct flights from all over Canada, along with many US cities such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Seattle, and Washington.

Whistler Sea To Sky Highway Once in Vancouver, it still will be a 2+ hour drive up to Whistler via the 75 mile Sea To Sky Highway. Highway 99, or the Sea To Sky Highway, is the only way to and from Whistler and Vancouver. It is worth mentioning as it is a very scenic and windy road, but you must drive with caution as it is very narrow and tight in many spots. For the 2010 Winter Olympics, the highway is being upgraded to two lanes in both directions. Be prepared for delays when travelling during weekdays, as construction on the road will remain right up until February 2010. Take your time in your drive up to Whistler and be careful.

Along your way up to Whistler, there are many picture taking locations, one of which being Shannon Falls. This multi-tiered waterfall is over 300 meters high, and you can take a short walk through the forest to get closer to the water. Squamish is a neat little town about half way to Whistler, it is a good idea to stock up on anything you might need here, it tends to be a bit cheaper than if you were to buy it in Whistler. Brittania Beach has the BC Mining Museum with tours and attractions.

If you are not planning on renting a car to drive to Whistler, there are several shuttle bus services that will take you from Vancouver to Whistler. Perimeter Bus Service and Whistler Star Express are just to name a few of these numerous shuttles.

Another interesting way of travelling to Whistler is via helicopter. Helijet services the Whistler area twice a day from the airport or from the heliport in Downtown Vancouver.

Skiing And Snowboarding

Whistler Skiing & Snowboarding Some of the world's best ski terrain is at Whistler/Blackcomb. It is the largest ski area on the continent, and has the greatest vertical rise of any mountain in North America. Hundreds of trails for every ability await, with high-speed quad chairlifts to send you back to the top of the mountains. Do not worry about fresh snow here, Whistler/Blackcomb gets over 20 feet of snow annually, so there is always spots for fresh tracks and powder-like conditions.

Besides skiing and snowboarding, you'll find lots of opportunities for fun and unique things such as dog sledding, snowmobiling, ice skating, ice climbing, snowshoeing, sleigh rides, hiking, and backcountry programs.

Summer In Whistler

Whistler Hiking The summer months at Whistler are becoming just as popular as the winter ski/snowboarding season, with numerous activities for visitors to do. The chairlifts and gondolas are kept in operation during the summer months, which gives visitors access to mountain top hiking and biking trails, along with sightseeing points.

Whistler also has four world-class golf courses nearby, why not take in a round at Nicklaus North or Chateau Whistler. Besides golf, plenty of other activites await, such as swimming, fishing, bungee jumping, horseback riding, and canoeing.
